When Concentrated Liquidity Needs a Range Reset
When the market price moves out of your set range and is not expected to return soon, you need to reset the range. This usually happens when a trend begins (a one-sided price breakout) or when the market's volatility structure changes significantly.

Core Signals That Trigger a Range Reset
In the concentrated liquidity (CL) model (such as Uniswap V3), concentrating liquidity in a narrow range improves capital efficiency, but at the cost of requiring more active management. The three main signals that tell you it's time to "move" are:
Price breaks through a range boundary: This is the most direct signal. When the lower or upper bound of your set range is pierced, your position stops earning fees and is fully converted into a single asset (all stablecoin if price is above the upper bound, all volatile asset if below the lower bound). If it's only a brief breach, you can wait; but if the breakout is accompanied by a clear trend, you must adjust.
Range width no longer matches current volatility: The market's "temperament" has changed while your range stayed put – this also needs an adjustment. If market volatility noticeably expands, a previously narrow range will be breached frequently, causing you to be constantly "kicked out" and incur impermanent loss. Conversely, if volatility contracts, a wide range will suffer from low capital utilization.
Realized PnL keeps deteriorating: This is a comprehensive lagging indicator. If you find that impermanent loss and other frictions have been persistently outweighing fee income, with no sign of improvement in the near term, you need to consider adjusting the range (for example, narrowing the range to improve fee efficiency, or widening the range to reduce the frequency of being kicked out).
Decision Considerations When Adjusting the Range
Adjusting is not a case of "the more frequently the better" – every adjustment involves on-chain gas fees. You can reference the following principles:
Judge the nature of the breakout: If the price fluctuates mildly and merely touches a boundary, you can observe first. If it is a high-volume, rapid one-sided breakout, prioritize adjusting.
Weigh the rebalancing cost: Rebalancing is economically worthwhile only when the expected additional fee earnings from the adjustment are greater than the gas fees and the potential impermanent loss (IL) incurred by this adjustment.
Suggested strategy for beginners: If you're unsure how to set your range, start with a medium-width range and check it regularly. As you gain experience, try pursuing higher returns within a narrower range.

Confirmation and Completion
After the adjustment is complete, confirm that the new price range has been successfully deployed and that you can see your liquidity position earning fees within the new range. At the same time, estimate the gas fee cost of this adjustment to ensure it doesn't significantly erode your future profits.
