CHoCH (Change of Character): Price breaks the last swing point of the current trend in the opposite direction. In a downtrend, price breaks the most recent higher high; in an uptrend, it breaks the most recent lower low. It signals that the "character" of the trend has changed and is an early warning of a reversal.
BOS (Break of Structure): Price breaks a swing point in the direction of the current trend. In an uptrend, price breaks a previous high to make a new high; in a downtrend, price breaks a previous low to make a new low. It confirms that the trend is continuing.
Step 2: Confirmation After a CHoCH – Waiting for a BOS in the New Direction
A CHoCH alone does not mean the reversal is done; it is just the first signal. Whether a reversal is valid requires later price action to confirm it with a BOS.

Common Reasons for Failure

You need to wait for the price to retest the order block formed by the CHoCH, or wait for a BOS in the new direction, before treating the reversal as confirmed.
Step 3: Filtering CHoCH with a Higher Timeframe
CHoCH signals on lower timeframes often contain more noise and false signals. CHoCHs on higher timeframes are more reliable.
What to do: Identify the timeframe of the current CHoCH and verify it with a higher timeframe.

A stop loss can be placed beyond the extreme of the CHoCH or beyond the last swing point of the original trend.
