ADL Execution Price Deviation From Mark Price: How to Verify Auto Deleveraging Losses

 /
3

It is very common that your ADL (Auto Deleveraging) execution price deviates from the displayed mark price, leading to larger-than-expected deleveraging losses. The verification logic is not complicated, you only need to focus on two key information points: what the actual execution price is, and how much of your position was closed out. The key issue is not the mark price itself, but that the settlement price used by ADL is different from the "market price" you see on the interface.

Step 1: Confirm the ADL settlement price

ADL settlement price rules are different across platforms. Take HTX's rule as an example: when ADL is triggered, the system selects relevant positions per its risk control mechanism, and executes the trade at the bankruptcy price of the forced liquidation order (the price when margin drops to zero). This bankruptcy price may have a clear gap with the real-time market price or mark price, especially during sharp market volatility.

After Bitget's upgrade in June 2026, its ADL execution price is adjusted to adopt the real-time mark price, making it much closer to actual market prices. That is why some platforms show small price deviation while others have much larger gaps.

  • [Action to take]: First confirm your trading platform's ADL execution price rule, check if it uses the bankruptcy price or mark price.

  • [How to do it]: Open the help center or contract rule page on the platform official website, search for "Auto Deleveraging" or "ADL" to find the official settlement price description.

  • [Completion standard]: You clearly understand the price basis of the platform's ADL, and know the reason behind the execution price deviation.

Step 2: Find your ADL deleveraging transaction record

  • [Action to take]: Locate the ADL record from your order history, and verify its execution price.

  • [How to do it]: Go to the [Order Center] or [Position History] page, filter records by the time you got deleveraged. The transaction type will be clearly marked as "Auto Deleveraging" or "ADL". Check its actual average execution price.

  • [Completion standard]: You get the exact execution price and deleveraged position size of this ADL event.

Step 3: Calculate and verify the loss

  • [Action to take]: Compare the actual ADL execution price with your expected price, and calculate the deviation loss.

  • [How to do it]: Use (Expected Price - ADL Actual Execution Price) × Deleveraged Position Size = Price Deviation Amount. If the actual execution price is lower than the mark price, the deviation amount is the profit that was deducted. Per official rules, after the trade is completed, the profit from the deleveraged position will be transferred to your available account balance.

  • [Completion standard]: You calculate the actual profit you received, and confirm no extra unauthorized deduction is made by the platform.

In extreme market conditions with drained liquidity and very sparse active buy orders, the ADL system's automatic liquidation will force trades to execute, which may trigger cascading price drops.

Validation method after full operation

After you check all ADL records, use this formula for verification: ADL Execution Price × Deleveraged Position Size should equal the "Total Executed Amount" (before fee deduction) shown in your order record. If the numbers do not match, take screenshots of the transaction bill and ADL execution price page, and contact platform customer support for further check. If you still have remaining positions after being deleveraged, it is recommended to moderately lower your leverage or take profit in advance to avoid being ranked at the front of the ADL queue again.
