Before you stop copy trading, first think about this: do you want to close all the positions that are currently being copied, or do you just want to stop following the trader's new signals but keep your current positions open to manage yourself? This decision determines whether you click "Stop Copy Trading" or "Unbind", and the steps and results are completely different.

Step 1: Understand the Difference Between "Stop Copy Trading" and "Unbind" — They Work Differently

[What to do] According to your real needs, choose the correct operation.

[How to do it] In OKX's copy trading system, "Stop Copy Trading" and "Unbind" are two different things:

  • Stop Copy Trading (Unfollow): Stops receiving new position-opening signals from the trader, but the current positions you are copying will not be automatically closed. You need to manually close them in the "Current Copy Trades" page. Use this when you don't want to follow this trader anymore, but you still want to keep the current positions and see how they do.

  • Unbind Strategist: Terminates all unexecuted signal reception, and the system will automatically close all current FOLLOW positions at market price. Unbinding is a complete exit. All your copy positions will be batch market closed. Use this when you decide to completely clear all copy trading exposures.

[Completion Standard]: You are clear whether you should click "Stop Copy Trading" or "Unbind", not just click one at random.

[Common Mistakes]: Many people think that clicking "Stop Copy Trading" will automatically clear their positions, only to find days later that the positions are still there, and losses occur when the market moves against them. Conversely, some click "Unbind" thinking it only stops copying, but all positions get market closed by the system, missing a potential rebound.

[High Risk Warning]: Unbinding is irreversible. The system will automatically close all current FOLLOW positions using market orders. In low liquidity market conditions, market closing can result in significant slippage, and the actual fill price may be far from your expected price. If you decide to unbind, check the order book depth first to avoid triggering batch closing when depth is thin.

Step 2: If You Only Want to Stop Copying and Keep Positions — Use "Stop Copy Trading"

[What to do] Stop receiving new signals, but manage the existing positions manually yourself.

[How to do it]

  1. Stop Copy Trading: Go to [My Copy Trading] → [My Traders], tap [Copy Settings] and select [Unfollow] or [Stop Copy Trading]. After confirmation, you will no longer copy new trades the trader opens.

  2. Handle Current Positions: After unfollowing, the open positions will not disappear automatically. You need to go to [My Copy Trading] → [Current Copy Trades], find these positions, and decide whether to close or keep them. In the app, on the "Current Copy Trades" list, tap the [Close Position] button on a position to manually close it, with an option to close all at market with one tap.

  3. Or Continue Holding: If you believe the current positions still have room to move, you can keep them and manually manage your stop loss and take profit later.

[Completion Standard]: The copy status changes to "Canceled", and the Current Copy Trades list shows only the positions you chose to keep.

Step 3: If You Want to Exit Completely and Close All Positions — Use "Unbind"

[What to do] Close all copy positions and end the copy relationship in one go.

[How to do it]

  1. Enter Unbind Page: Go to the trader's (strategist's) profile page, tap the top-right [···] → [Unbind Copy].

  2. Confirm Unbind: The system will show a second confirmation popup with the number of positions to be closed, estimated fees, and expected arrival time. Enter your trading password and tap [Confirm Unbind].

  3. System Auto Processes: After confirmation, the system immediately sends batch market orders to close all current FOLLOW positions.

[Completion Standard]: The original trader no longer appears in the [My Copy Trading] list, all copy positions are cleared, and funds return to your account.

[How to verify completion]: After stopping copy trading or unbinding, go to the [Contract Positions] page and check if there are any positions marked "FOLLOW" left. If there are and you don't want them, close them manually. If none, the action has taken effect. Also check [My Copy Trading] → [Copy Trade History] to confirm that the status has updated to "Stopped" or "Unbound". Historical copy trading data is kept for 90 days for reference; you can export it if needed.
