It is far harder to apply for early redemption from a trade finance pool than most people expect, since there is no supporting secondary market. It is not that the operation is impossible, but most pools are not designed for "exit any time" — they work more like fixed lock-up products, not demand wealth management products.

The redemption logic of on-chain trade finance pools (such as Centrifuge's Tinlake) is completely different from the Uniswap liquidity pools you are familiar with in DeFi. It does not rely on market maker capital pools, but on underlying asset repayment to provide liquidity. Your exit time depends on whether the assets in the pool have matured and been repaid, rather than "selling whenever you want".
Redemption Process When No Secondary Market Exists
Redemption from trade finance pools follows similar logic to traditional fund redemptions. When you submit a redemption request, the funds will not arrive in your account immediately, but enter a request queue. Once the issuer receives repayment from accounts receivable, or new investors buy in, funds will be distributed to redemption applicants in the order of the queue.
The main time-consuming part of this process is that the underlying assets of trade finance are invoices and accounts receivable, with repayment cycles usually ranging from 30 days to 180 days. Even after you submit a redemption request, you have to wait for these bills to mature and the buyer to pay, so that the pool has available cash to fulfill your redemption.
Two Alternative Workarounds If You Need Urgent Funds
Method 1: Use your pool share as collateral for on-chain loans
Another way to get early exit (or at least instant liquidity) is to borrow instead of sell. Protocols like MakerDAO have gradually accepted some RWA tokens as collateral assets — you can deposit tokenized assets (such as Centrifuge's DROP tokens) as collateral to borrow stablecoins (such as DAI). This lets you get immediately usable funds without selling your pool shares.
Centrifuge's full workflow is: Real-world assets → DROP tokens → DAI → Secondary market. Each conversion step improves the liquidity of the assets. Note that this method currently only applies to structured RWA protocols like Centrifuge, and is not supported by all trade finance pools.
Method 2: Use dedicated instant redemption service providers
New infrastructure solving the "RWA redemption difficulty" issue emerged in the first half of 2026. Symbiotic launched the Liquid Lane system: when a user wants to exit a tokenized position, their redemption request is routed to a network of market makers, who compete to provide liquidity. The winning market maker transfers USDC to the user directly and takes over the tokenized assets.
Upshift Clear, a product from Upshift in partnership with Superstate, is another similar solution: it uses a dedicated USDC vault to provide T+0 instant liquidity for RWA holders, with no restrictions from bank settlement times.
However, both types of services are still in the early stage, with limited supported asset ranges. You need to confirm separately whether the pool you invested in is compatible with these services.

3 Steps to Take Right Now If You Need Urgent Money
If you have already invested in a trade finance pool and need funds urgently with no secondary market available, follow this sequence to find a solution:
Check the pool's redemption rules: Confirm if it supports "instant redemption", "redemption by queue" or "wait until assets mature". This information is clearly stated in the project documentation (such as the Tinlake protocol description). If the rule is redemption by queue, you will wait in line after submitting the request, and the specific waiting time depends on the pool's repayment rhythm and the length of the redemption request queue.
Check the current available liquidity of the pool: If the pool has received unallocated repayment funds, they will be used to fulfill redemption requests in the queue first. You can find this data on the governance forum or dashboard of protocols like Centrifuge. If the pool faces tight liquidity, the waiting period may be longer.
Consider share collateralized loans or third-party redemption services: If you do not want to wait passively, check if your share supports collateral loans (such as RWA tokens integrated by MakerDAO), or if services like Liquid Lane and Upshift Clear support the asset type you hold. These two solutions have different costs and applicable conditions, so you need to make a trade-off based on your specific position size.
